Book launch on Wednesday 30 April 2014

By The Collins Press

From Fair City to Wicklow … actor and theatre owner Pat Nolan will launch This is Wicklow by Michael Delahunty in Bridge Street Books on Wednesday 30 April 2014.

When Michael Delahunty was fourteen years old, he started saving for his first camera – it took him almost a year but he was finally able to buy a Felicette camera for £3.26. He wanted to be a professional photographer but since there were no courses for that, he became an accountant instead. He never lost his love of photography and now combines that with his passion for hillwalking and his pride in his adopted county of Wicklow.

The result is This is Wicklow (The Collins Press, price €19.99), a new book of photographs that celebrate the towns, the flora and fauna, the mountains, romantic lakes, rivers and waterfalls which combine to make Wicklow the ‘Garden of Ireland’. All aspects of living in and visiting Wicklow are encapsulated in over 200 photographs taken over a five-year period. This is Wicklow through and through, a unique and exciting place with many different sides to it.

From Blessington in the northwest of the county to Arklow in the southeast, this photographic journey traverses the county, from the tranquillity of ancient monasteries to vibrant villages and towns. Michael said, ‘In addition to the places of Wicklow, I included many of the activities available in the county such as golf, canoeing, hillwalking, horse riding and fishing, to show the very best of Wicklow.’ Designed to satisfy visitors and locals alike, This is Wicklow clearly shows why the county is one of Ireland’s premier visitor destinations, vibrantly capturing the spirit, colour and diversity of all that is best in Wicklow.

This is Wicklow by Michael Delahunty is published by The Collins Press, price €19.99. It is available in all good bookshops and online from www.collinspress.ie. It will be launched by Pat Nolan, actor and theatre owner (formerly Fair City), in Bridge Street Books at 6.00 p.m. on Wednesday 30 April 2014.

At age fifteen Michael Delahunty had two pictures accepted for the Irish Salon of Photography, when only five from Ireland were exhibited. Now semi-retired, he is realising his dream of being a photographer, with significant success, including winning the IPF gold medal for best picture in Ireland in 2007. Concentrating on landscape photography, he combines it with hillwalking. This gave him the opportunity to amass a collection of photographs of Wicklow in all its seasons and all its moods. He lives in County Wicklow.
