By DEREK LORE
My name is Derek Ambrose Valentine Loré the only son of Matthew Ambrose Graham Loré the youngest son of Louis Napoleon Loré and Mary Aloysia [ Née Graham]
L N Loré was born in Dublin in 1852 his parents were Arnand Prosper Loré and Olivia Debouvienne married in Dublin in 1844. He arrived in Dublin via Dover earlier that year from Boulogne his birthplace 1822. I suspect that Olivia was also from Boulogne as her father was born in Boulogne 1779. I cannot find a record of her arrival in Dublin. It would be unusual for a young woman to be married away from her home town.
From a baptismal record in Dundalk/Louth my grandmother Mary Aloyisa Graham parents were Matthew Graham and Mary Finegan.
This ties in with my fathers name and a comment made about Finegans store in Lancashire.
There is a mystery about L N Loré's brother but I have found a record of the marriage of Adolphe Loré to Elizabeth Robinson at St Andrews South Dublin on 10/11/1894.Father Prosper Loré Hatter who died in 1873. I cannot find a birth record of Adolphe. Their son Prosper James Loré was killed in action in 1917 aged 24.
I remember a family story that Louis and his brother Adolphe [now I know his name] were caught in the Siege of Paris 1871. They survived by eating rats. It is possible that they could have travelled to Paris at 19 years of age. But maybe my father Ambrose heard of the deprivations of the Siege from his father and presumed they were actually there.
Prosper Loré Hatter exhibited at the Dublin Exhibition 1882 and was awarded a Gold Medal. The business was well known and at that time was established 35 years so it started about 1848 only 4 after Prosper arrived from Boulogne unfortunately he died at the age of 51 in 1873. The business continued to trade until 1893.
I would be delighted if any of the family could comment on the above. Especially if a hat from the past could be found.
More later........
